ERW carbon steel pipe

ERW carbon steel pipe is a high-quality steel pipe made by electric resistance welding, known for its excellent strength and durability, making it ideal for applications in construction, oil and gas industries, and mechanical manufacturing.

Qualified steel pipes will be labeled, specification arranged and put into storage. Before shipment, final inspection and packaging of the steel pipes are also required to ensure safety during transportation.

ERW carbon steel pipe is also known as “resistance welding straight seam welded pipe”, ERW carbon steel straight seam welded pipe is mainly divided into two forms of ERW AC welded steel pipe and ERW DC welded steel pipe.

ERW LSAW pipe is divided into low-frequency welding, medium-frequency welding, super medium-frequency welding and high-frequency welding according to different frequencies. High-frequency welding is mainly used for the production of thin-walled steel pipe or ordinary wall thickness steel pipe, high-frequency welding is divided into contact welding and induction welding.

I. Welded Steel Pipe Classification

Welded steel pipe for industrial use is mainly divided into three categories:

(1) High-frequency resistance welded pipe (ERW): electromagnetic induction technology to achieve metal joining, weld seam formed by the melting of the base material

(2) Straight seam arc welded pipe (LSAW): through the submerged arc welding process longitudinally welded steel plate, suitable for large-diameter, high-pressure pipelines。

(3) Spiral Welded Pipe: Welding steel strip by spiral winding, mostly used for oil and gas long-distance pipelines.

II. ERW carbon steel pipe welding process

ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) adopts the skin effect generated by high-frequency current to make the edge of the steel strip instantly reach the molten state and realize metallurgical bonding under pressure. The process features include:

(1) Base material integrity: the composition of the weld is consistent with the base metal, eliminating the compositional deviation of traditional welding rods.

(2) Geometric seamlessness: Through internal and external burr removal technology, the pipe wall flatness reaches ±0.2mm tolerance.

(3) Physical property optimization: online heat treatment process eliminates welding heat-affected zone and increases strength by 15-20%.

III. International standard certification system

ERW carbon steel pipe has passed many authoritative certifications:

(1) API SPEC 5L/5CT: applicable to X42-X70 steel grade oil and gas transportation

(2) ASTM A53/A500: mandatory certification standards for building structural pipe.

(3) ASME B31.8: special code for city gas pipe network.

(4) EN 10217: EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) certification

IV. The use of ERW carbon steel pipe

ERW carbon steel pipe is mainly used in water supply engineering, petrochemical industry, chemical industry, electric power industry, agricultural irrigation, urban construction in China.

Liquid transportation: water supply, drainage.

Gas transportation: gas, steam, liquefied petroleum gas.

Structural use: piling pipes, bridges, docks, roads, etc.
